Advanced units of study are designed to provide additional challenges for the best students. They may be taken individually within a general science degree, or will form part of the requirements for the successful completion of a designated advanced degree. The successful completion of an advanced degree or advanced units of study in your Senior year, demonstrates to employers that you have achieved consistently high results throughout your degree. With designated classes such as special seminars, alternative practical classes or alternative lecture series, advanced units of study extend upon the fundamentals, often in a small group situation.

Entered by invitation at any year of the degree where a student is eligible, the Talented Student Program (TSP) provides flexibility within the degree structure and opportunities for students of exceptional merit to complete agreed projects. These projects are often research-based and culminate in the presentation of a scientific poster, report or other assessment as determined between the student and project supervisor. TSP projects provide a mentored learning opportunity with access to facilities and supervisors that are normally unavailable or available only later in a degree.
