Tony Weiss wins biotech award

Professor Tony Weiss, Orsola Regaglia and Suzanne Mithieux, working with Hamish Hawthorn (Australian Technology Park Innovations) and Business Liaison Office staff, were awarded the Commercialisation Expo 2006 NSW State Prize on the 19th of June for their success with synthetic elastin. Using large amounts of pure protein that mimics new elastin precursors, they are recognised for their ability to make biocompatible synthetic elastin constructs intended for human tissue repair. The event showcased Australia's public sector research and was sponsored by DEST, Go8 Universities, State Governments, the Australian Institute for Commercialisation and Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia. The Prize is associated with Australia's largest and most influential R&D and new technology showcase.
