The Sydney Protein Group

The Sydney Protein Group is made up of protein scientists and students from academia, hospitals and industry.

We meet regularly to hear updates from local and overseas speakers on the latest developments in protein science and related fields.

Scholarships and prizes are also provided to enable young scientists to attend key protein related meetings in Australia.

Thomson Prize event 2009 , November 26th, 2009 (Victor Chang, Sydney)
This year’s Thompson Prize will be held at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (405 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010, see here). The meeting will be hosted by Daniela Stock and Chu Kong Liew and will be held in the seminar room on Level 4 of the Lowy Packer Building on Thursday, November 26 starting at 5 pm . There will be finger food, drinks and a BBQ afterwards in Cloud 9 (the VCCRI’s public space on Level 9). Entries for the Thompson Prize & Lorne Travel Awards are now closed. Meeting of the Australian Biophysical Society, November 29th - December 2nd, 2009 (Ballarat)
The 33rd Meeting of the Australian Biophysical Society will be held from November, 29th to December, 2nd at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, Victoria. Follow the link to the meeting here. [Posted 2nd September, 2009]

COMBIO 2009, December 6th-10th, 2009 (Christchurch)

Satellite Conference after COMBIO, December 11th-12th, 2009 (NZ)
Wayne Patrick from Massey University in Auckland is organizing this inaugural Symposium for Protein Engineering and Evolution (SPrEE) after ComBio. This two-day meeting will provide a forum for discussing leading-edge research into protein structure and function, with particular emphases on engineering and directed evolution and will provide students and post-docs with an excellent opportunity to speak. See here for details. Key points to note are 1. Registration is free, 2. Places are limited, 3. You need to bring your sleeping bag. 4. 2010 Lorne Conferences, February 4th-16th, 2010 (Lorne, Victoria)
The 2010 Lorne Conferences will be held from 4th of February to 16th of February, 2010 in the beautiful seaside location of Lorne in Victoria. There will be four different conferences: Proteomics, Protein, Cancer and Genome. Deadlines for early-bird registration is Friday, 20th of November for the first three, and Monday, 30th for Genome. The Oral Abstract and Poster deadline for the latter is 13th and 20th of November, respectively. [Posted 9th November, 2009]

Biophysical Chemistry Workshop, April 6th-10th, 2010 (Adelaide)
Ron Clarke (University of Sydney) and Tak Kee (University of Adelaide) are organising a Biophysical Chemistry Workshop at the University of Adelaide in April 2010. Topics intended to be covered include: Spectroscopy, kinetics and thermodynamics of biological molecules; Biophysical chemistry of membranes and membrane proteins; Protein crystallography and mass spectrometry; Molecular modelling of biological systems; Photosynthesis; Physical chemistry of natural products and polymers and Bioelectrochemistry.
