Thompson Prize Evening 2003

in 2003, the Thompson Prize evening, sponsored by Bio-Rad and Proteome Systems, was held at the University of Sydney on 1 December.

The Thompson Prize night (or afternoon) Thompson Prize Speakers 2003 was held on December 1st at the School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences at the University of Sydney. Our five finalists gave a series of excellent and varied talks (see below) leaving our Judges (Jason Kahn, University of Maryland; Phil Robinson, Children's Medical Research Institute; and Andrew Gooley, Proteome Systems Ltd) the unenviable task of selecting one winner. After much deliberation Daniel Trambaiolo was announced as the Winner of the 2003 Thompson Prize.

The Lorne Travelling Scholarships (to enable students to attend the 2004 Lorne Protein Conference on Protein Structure and Function) were also announced. This year the awards were sponsored by our long-standing supporters, BioRad Systems Ltd and Proteome Systems Ltd, and the winners were:
Philippa Stokes, BioRad.
Fionna Loughlin, Proteome Systems.
Chu Wai Liew, SPG Greg Ralston Memorial Award.
All three recipients are from the University of Sydney.

After drinks, about 20 people finished off the evening with dinner at Thailand Resteraunt in Newtown.

The Sydney Protein Group is an affiliated Special Interest Group of ASBMB Inc.
